Green Matters Board

  • Kathy Lynch, President

Kathy is a resident of central New Jersey, where she serves as an advisor to her township’s Environmental Commission. She has an Economics degree from Bucknell University; in 2021, she completed Rutgers University’s Environmental Stewardship program and took Judith Enck’s Plastics Pollution class. She moved to Skillman in 2018 and soon discovered the unique beauty and natural resource that is the Sourlands region. She enjoys cycling there, and is also an avid swimmer. After a couple of different careers (as an editor and most recently as a licensed massage therapist), she is focusing her efforts on taking actions to mitigate the effects of climate change, in her backyard and beyond. Her current priority is reducing plastics pollution and production.

  • Susan Rizzo, Treasurer

Susan lives with her husband in Lawrenceville, NJ. In 2019 she retired from Princeton University where she had been an administrator for 26 years at the School of Public and International Affairs. During her time at Princeton she raised two daughters, and, as they grew older, she slowly returned to her main passion – painting. Retirement has afforded her the time to not only paint more often, but to open Zuzu Gallery, located in the heart of Lawrenceville. She is primarily a landscape painter drawing inspiration from the beautiful open spaces near her home filled with trees, fields, and streams that support birds and other wildlife. Susan was honored to join the efforts of Green Matters to help protect these precious spaces.

  • Maureen Moritz, Secretary

Maureen grew up in Bergen County, New Jersey and attended Rutgers University. She now splits her time between South Brunswick, NJ and Cape May.

Her most recent job was in elementary education working in a special needs classroom for more than 13 years. During this time her passion for protecting and preserving the environment for the next generation became apparent. As an educator she believes children should be taught about climate change at a young age and her goal is to make that a reality. As a person concerned about the future health of the planet and its inhabitants, she believes community engagement and citizenship are key levers to mitigating climate change.

Now officially “retired”, Maureen is dedicating her time and talents to support the mission and work of Green Matters while also making time for her many hobbies such as knitting and her favorite outdoor activities: cycling, running, skiing and hiking.

  • Jennifer Closser

Jennifer moved to Princeton, the town where she grew up, after 22 years living in Washington, DC, where she met her husband, had two children, and pursued a career as a criminal trial attorney. While in DC, she had the fortune of living across the street from Rock Creek Park, a federally protected area of nearly 3 square miles, where the residents of DC can hike, bike, run, cross-country ski, and generally enjoy nature.

Jennifer became actively involved in the DC public school system while her children were in elementary school, including in the installation of the Edible School Garden and Butterfly Garden. That’s where she learned firsthand the powerful positive, educational impact her involvement could have on the urban school community.

Jennifer has brought this experience, and love of nature and the outdoors, with her to Princeton, and is both excited and honored to be part of Green Matters and its mission to bring together education, sustainability, and preservation of the environment.
